Acadia National Park Campgrounds
Located mostly on Mount Desert Island, this 47,000-acre park is a hugely popular destination for New England campers. Home to rocky shores, evergreens, pristine lakes, and granite mountains, Acadia is nicknamed the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast.

4. Sebago Lake State Park Campground

5. Camden Hills State Park Campground

A 2-hour drive up the coast from Portland, Camden Hills State Park is a 5,710-acre park overlooking Penobscot Bay. For a more remote experience, you can hire a boat to shuttle you across the bay to Warren Island State Park.

6. Lily Bay State Park Campground

In northwest Maine, Lily Bay State Park sits 1.5 hours’ drive east of the Canadian border. This beautiful campground offers spacious sites that look out onto Moosehead Lake. Aside from backcountry camping in Baxter State Park or staying at the privately run Wilderness Edge Campground, this site is the closest you’ll get to the stunning Mt. Katahdin.

7. Cobscook Bay State Park Campground

Located in easternmost Maine, Cobscook Bay State Park is only a 30-minute drive from the Canadian border. This secluded forest sits in the sheltered inlet of Broad Cove, which is home to rich wildlife. Here, you can witness the impressive tidal shifts of Whiting Bay, boasting an average rise of 24 feet!

8. Wolfe’s Neck Oceanfront Camping

9. Sandy Pines Campground
Location: 277 Mills Rd, Kennebunkport, ME 04046
Campsites: 280-plus sites, including RVs (some with water, electric, sewage, and cable!), and “glamping” sites
Fees: Tent sites start at $60 per night with a 2-night minimum.
The most southern of these campgrounds, Sandy Pines Campground is an hour’s drive south of Portland. This unique campground offers many fun ways to “glamp,” including rentals of RVs, wagons, A-frames, canvas tents, cottages, and even a VW Bus named Sunny Daze.
