After more than two years in development, Newton Running has produced its first trail-running shoe. It’s not set to launch until July, but when the men’s and women’s Terra Momentus trail shoes come to market they will be the first to incorporate Newton’s proprietary “actuator lug” technology into a dirt-oriented shoe.
Newton is known for its unique and high-price road-running shoes, which use lugs on the sole to “rebound stored energy” every time you land and push off. The technology is said to promote a more efficient, natural running stride.
For the trail models, Newton includes a breathable “closed mesh” upper that’s said to be debris-proof. A midfoot chassis provides added stability while on uneven terrain. The sole holds to Newton’s “actuator lug” theme, though the company adds significant reinforcement to handle off-road venues.
The Momentus shoes will be available in July for $140. www.newtonrunning.com
