After more than 80 years making leather boots, Danner’s first woven boot isn’t just new for the brand. EnduroWeave is making an imprint as one of the first woven hiking boots on the market.
Launched this past spring, the EnduroWeave will excite hikers looking for a minimalistic, super-breathable boot with classic styling. A move to woven materials may seem unusual for a brand built on leather. But remember that Danner was the first to adopt another important technology in the ’70s: Gore-Tex.
“We wanted to create a lightweight, durable hiking boot for dry conditions and multiple types of terrain,” said Will Pennartz, senior marketing manager at Danner. “EnduroWeave is the perfect companion for summertime hikes — providing more protection and ankle support than a trail runner, but lighter and more breathable than the average hiking boot.”
Here’s what else you need to know about this potentially game-changing boot.
Danner Mountain 600 EnduroWeave Technical Specs
EnduroWeave is woven textile built and tested in the Pacific Northwest to withstand the elements. Danner designed the woven textile to be tight enough for protection but loose enough for air permeability.
A special highly abrasion-resistant carbon wash is added to protect individual fibers in the proprietary weave. This adds durability to the boot’s low-profile, foot-hugging upper.
Two additional design features provide stability on rocky trails. The EnduroWeave boot’s new Vibram Fuga outsole allows lugs to “relax” and contour to the terrain. This helps with grip on both wet and dry surfaces.
When combined with the outsole’s special flex lines, the responsive Vibram SPE midsole allows the foot to expand naturally to a wider surface, which also aids stability.
The three-layer Ortholite footbed uses open-cell foam for even more cooling over the long haul.
Additionally, the mesh liner works like a venting system. It’s made to wick moisture away from the foot, helping to prevent the “slide” factor that can lead to blisters on a summer trail hike.
The Danner EndroWeave is just 34 ounces per pair, making it at least 3 ounces lighter than the leather Mountain 600. But the two share the same shank, last, footbed, and sole, so the boot doesn’t give up performance with the lost weight.
Available for men and women, Danner Mountain 600 EnduroWeave boots come in brown or black. They’re on sale now for $160. For best fit, select a half size below your normal boot size.
