Combining form and function, Teva’s latest hiking shoes look good and have the features needed for the backcountry. The men’s Riva eVent and women’s Dalea eVent — top-end shoes in the Teva line — include leather overlays on the upper, an overlasted toe for protection and strength, and Vibram outsoles.
Combine those features with an eVent membrane treatment on the outside to keep the shoes waterproof and breathable, and the new Teva shoes could be suitable for day hikes or longer hauls.
One caveat: The shoes are not lightweights — at a size 9, the Riva comes in at 16 ounces (1 pound), and the Dalea weighs 13.6 ounces in a women’s size 8.
While I’m no judge for women on whether the Dalea could fashionably be worn in a non-outdoors environment, I can say the men’s Riva would easily cross over to casual settings.
The Riva eVent and Dalea eVent are currently available for $130 and $125 respectively. www.teva.com
