Want to see a waterfront caldera, a massive 200-year-old cactus, and a desert oasis? Just head to the Baja Peninsula.

The second-longest peninsula in the world, it extends nearly 800 miles, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Gulf of California (or Sea of Cortez) to the east. Geologically speaking, volcanic activity sheared off land from North America to create the peninsula and the gulf.

These are just some of the notes from the short film Finding the Heart of Baja, created by Four Wheel Campers, a pop-up truck camper brand. In the film, the brand assembles a group of adventurers for an overlanding tour of the Baja Peninsula. The mini documentary explores the interconnections between the area’s unique landscape, habitat, and culture — presented by a guide from Agave Expeditions.

By going off-grid and deeper into the peninsula, the film provides a geological and cultural history of the area. This deeper understanding is an example of how travel beyond paved roads can unlock greater experiences and new connections.

And Four Wheel Campers is there to provide sleeping solutions for just this kind of overland trip. It makes slide-in, flat-bed, and truck bed toppers to fit a wide variety of makes and models.
