‘Bugling Elk’ Punks Denver News Station During COVID Howl

A Denver news station reports that local wildlife joined in on quarantined folks howling at the moon. But little did they know: Humans can also bugle.

In Colorado (and a lot of places across the U.S.), folks have been howling at the moon every night at 8 p.m. The new ritual is a show of support for healthcare workers and a way to connect with neighbors. We’ve been taking part, and it feels pretty good to yip, howl, and blow off steam.

And as reported by a CBS Denver broadcast, a wild elk even joined in with the wolfy howling in Evergreen, Colorado, on Monday night.

Was it really an elk? I’ll leave it up to you to decide. But I’ll give you a hint: September is 139 days away. And the elk rut likely won’t start until around that time. Occasional offseason bugles do happen, buttttt…..

For now, we’re going to go ahead and guess someone dusted off the elk bugle for this one. So tonight, if you hear some bugles around Denver, feel free to reply with a few cow calls, an elk bugle of your own, or maybe a turkey gobble. Or just howl away with friends and neighbors. We’re all listening.
