Studded Ice Tires — The Xerxes winter tires from 45Nrth were our stock commuter tires this year, and they let us roll through the cold months in Minnesota. The 700c x 30 tires are equipped with dozens of aluminum-carbide studs — you can hear them on the road grabbing for grip.

They are versatile for snowy, icy conditions as well as dry winter days. Wrote our reviewer: “At around 75 psi, the tire rolls fast and the studs do not touch down. Let out some air and the rubber can smoosh in more, adding traction and allowing the studs to consistently engage on the ground.” (Go here for the full review of this product on GearJunkie.)
