If you own a Giro Merit helmet — stop using it immediately. That’s the message from a recall notice from the California-based bike company, which said there’s a safety issue with all Merit helmet products before this year.
The helmet straps on some Giro Merit helmets manufactured prior to January 2023 may disengage from the helmet when pulled with “relatively little force,” the company said in a news release.

Giro said owners of the affected helmets can receive an immediate replacement by calling the company at 1-800-456-2355. Owners can also contact Giro by email at consumersupport@bellgiro.com.
A Giro Merit helmet, available for both men and women, retails for $220 in the U.S., according to the Giro website. It can be identified by the model name “Merit” on the rear of the helmet, according to images online.
It doesn’t matter if owners haven’t experienced any problems with the helmet, the company said.
Giro said it’s better to stop using the helmet and get a replacement out of “an abundance of caution.”
