This weekend, as masses of riders gather for the UNBOUND Gravel races, many will also ride in tribute to Mo Wilson.

Moriah Wilson would’ve sported bike plate #1 in the upcoming UNBOUND gravel race. Instead, the 25-year-old cyclist died from gunshot wounds she suffered in Austin, Texas, on May 11. But thanks to surging support from fellow cyclists and the cycling community, her memory will live on at UNBOUND Gravel.

UNBOUND Gravel consists of a junior, 100-mile, and 200-mile race in Emporia, Kan. The day before, a special tribute ride will be held in the deceased cyclist’s honor.

Remembering and Honoring Mo

“The gravel community has experienced immense heaviness over the last few weeks,” Life Time Events wrote.

“The tragedy of losing Mo has left an already lasting effect on the cycling community. We and everyone at Life Time feel lucky to have been graced by her spirit and presence in her short time with us.”

In tribute and remembrance to Mo Wilson, Life Time will be doing the following:

  • Retiring women’s bike plate #1: Mo would have sported #1 at this UNBOUND gravel event, and possibly events following. “In her honor, we will retire bike plate #1 for the remainder of the season,” wrote Life Time.
  • Sharing her memory: “Ride Like Mo” stickers will be distributed to all 4,000 riders to sport on their helmets, bike plates, bikes, etc. during race weekend.
  • Supporting future riders in her honor: In conjunction with Mo’s sponsors, Life Time is donating to a scholarship fund (you can donate too in Mo’s memory), to be determined by the Wilson family. More details on the scholarship fund will be available soon.

Tribute Ride Details

Life Time will host a tribute ride at sunrise on Friday, June 3. The ride is described as an easy 12-mile spin, open to all who want to join. The group plans to stop at the halfway point of the ride to reflect, and then finish the ride on the last 6 miles of the racecourse.

  • Location: 8th and Mechanic St., Emporia, Kan.
  • Start time: 5:30 a.m.
  • Distance: 12 miles

For all who are attending and racing in UNBOUND Gravel, good luck and enjoy the ride. For everyone else, feel free to ride some miles this weekend in Mo’s honor.
