For the second year running, Mammut has partnered with the American Mountain Guides Association to support and increase representation of women in the outdoors — specifically the mountain guide community.
Last year, Mammut decided to find an impactful way to support women in the climbing and guiding community: creating a scholarship fund. This year, that scholarship will continue thanks to Mammut and the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA).
In the U.S., there are roughly 150 AGMA mountain guides — only 16 are women.
“The scholarship provides one woman the opportunity to complete one Mountain Guide course with full tuition covered. A variety of barriers can prevent folks from entering and continuing their guide education,” said AMGA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager Monserrat Alvarez.
“This scholarship removes financial barriers that hinder this process and makes a huge impact on someone’s education as a guide. We have a responsibility to support and uplift the communities within guiding that have historically not seen themselves as part of the community.”
And the scholarship isn’t just money. The recipient will be awarded a full-tuition AMGA scholarship in any mountain guide course or exam, and receive a complete kit including safety gear from Mammut.
Scholarship Application Details
One important note: All scholarship applicants must have a current AMGA membership (or apply for one before applying for the scholarship). The women’s-specific Mammut Scholarship will be applicable for any mountain guide course or exam to reach her mountain guide certification. (Depending on the course/program, that’s a value between $400 and $40,000.)
Find more details on the AMGA’s scholarship page. Applications will remain open through March 21, 2022.
