Used outdoor gear seller Out&Back and major retailer DICK’s Sporting Goods partner up to bring pre-owned gear to the masses.

Today, Out&Back announces an in-store partnership with DICK’s Sporting Goods as it “venture[s] into the hard goods resale space.”

With DICK’s, Out&Back will also offer new softgoods and apparel.

If you’ve ever purchased used gear online through a third-party platform, you know how much of a treasure trove it can be. But it can also demand a lot of time and scrolling for both sellers and buyers. Photographing your gear, listing it, printing shipping labels, and sending it out. Now, you can simply walk into a store and offload your used gear.

Here’s how to trade in your used gear — in person — with Out&Back.

Trade In Used Gear at DICK’s or Public Lands

Out&Back’s in-person pilot program will launch with DICK’S Sporting Goods in two key outdoor markets: Denver and Pittsburgh.

Out&Back will begin accepting hardgoods in-store at three locations: the Public Lands in Cranberry Township, Penn., and at DICK’s Sporting Goods in Lakewood, Colo. (just outside of Denver) as well as Pittsburgh — Fridays through Sundays.

“Working with Out&Back to give people an opportunity to explore the outdoors and reduce our environmental footprint at the same time is a win-win,” said Peter Land, chief sustainability officer at DICK’s Sporting Goods.

As part of all gear buybacks, Out&Back and DICK’S will donate 1% of the value of offers given to sellers to 1% for the Planet. The program will officially launch in stores on April 29.

Whether you’re selling pants, jackets, ski gear, tents, backpacks, apparel, or kids’ gear, Out&Back works to help you sell and buy. Along with previously accepted items like outerwear, tents, backpacks, and other softgoods, the program will also accept skis and snowboards.

Here’s how it works:

  • With Out&Back’s cash offers, the brand buys used gear from you (Venmo or PayPal)
  • Customers can still sell used gear online, but now they can do it in person in three physical locations

“The partnership will evolve over time to include additional locations and additional hard items to trade in,” Out&Back told us.

Out&Back sells secondhand gear from brands like Patagonia, Marmot, The North Face, Arc’teryx, Carhartt, Herschel Supply Co., Pendleton, Roxy, Spyder, Burton, Atomic, Blizzard-Tecnica, GNU, Nordica, and many more.
