The recent bushfires in Australia are destroying more than buildings — including a Snowy Mountain ski resort.

The massive wildfires burning across Australia struck at Selwyn Mountain Resort in the Snowy Mountains last weekend. The Dunns Road blaze in New South Wales was responsible for the damage to the resort. Just this one fire has burned an area of more than 780,000 acres, and there are many more still burning across the country.

“Selwyn Snow Resort has suffered extensive damage as a result of the recent fires,” the resort wrote. “While we know the Selwyn community will be saddened by this news, it is important to remember that the fire situation is still active in the wider region.”

The fire burned the lifts, as well as snowmobiles and resort structures down to the metal frames. The resort posted an update to Facebook today, including photos of the damage.

Despite the rampant damage caused by the fire, the owners of the ski resort are already looking to rebuild, with the help of the National Parks and Wildlife Service and other state agencies. The snow resort is located inside Kosciuszko National Park, about 7 hours south of Sydney.
