Texans love to do few things in the Lone Star State more than hunt.

And maybe that’s why it’s such an important thing to do for the namesake main character in NANA. This moving short film tells the story of Darline Boultinghouse — known to family members as simply Nana — who built a classic country life with her husband, Steve.

The couple loved to hunt whitetail deer from a blind on their property, but when Steve abruptly passed away 7 years ago, Nana needed time to grieve. With the help of her family, she made her hunting comeback, bagging a deer and quickly converting it into a bounty of meat for herself and her family.

As soon as Nana fired the successful shot to end the hunt, she turned and said, “Now we can have a beer.”

It just doesn’t get much more endearing than that.
