I remember burying G.I Joe army men in my sandbox and finding them again months later. Ah, the joyous reunion we’d have! You can relive that same feeling by geocaching, “a high-tech version of a treasure hunt, where adventure seekers use GPS technology to hide and find physical objects, and solve location-based puzzles,” according to a common definition.
I’m more of a map and compass man myself. But for those of you who love your GPS and are prone to getting involved in geocaching, Magellan has made a tool just for you. Next month the company begins shipping the eXplorist GC, a GPS unit pre-loaded with coordinates for “the most popular geocaches in the world,” according to the press release. It has easy-to-use features and a sunlight-readable color screen. The device is touted to seamlessly connect to www.geocaching.com, the official global GPS cache hunt site.
The eXplorist retails for $199.99 and will come with a free, 30-day premium membership to Geocaching.com. With all the features built exclusively for geocaching, there may not be a better device for getting started with your own treasure hunting adventure. Buried G.I Joe army men may or may not be included.
