As it gets colder, it’s time to pull out some warmer gear or go get some. At only $22 the Jones Wares skull cap is one of the least expensive ways to stay toasty.
Made from a fine merino wool, it’s thin enough to fit underneath your bike helmet without having to adjust the straps. There’s no uncomfortable seams. I’ve been riding with it almost daily for more than a month and it’s perfect in its simplicity.
Although I like traditional cycling beanies, too, it’s nice to have an option that doesn’t have a bill — sometimes the bill on a proper cap flips down during inopportune times, like fast descents. Not the best time to have visibility slightly limited.
According to the company the Skull Cap “works great for running, skiing, and hiking; fits close to the head and protects ears and back of the neck.” I found this to be true.
Made in the USA, it’s available in a range of colors. It’s a great addition to any cyclist’s wardrobe — an easily-stashable hat is a must-have for those who exercise in colder climes. www.joneswares.com
