Nothing beats a nod to one of the most outstanding female world freeskiing pros, Ingrid Backstrom. The Seattle native was the only woman featured in Powder Magazine (2002) as one of the “Future Big Mountain Heroes” — which later proved accurate.
Ingrid Backstrom cemented her status as a freeskiing icon with her performances in Yearbook (2004) and The Hit List (2005). That earned her outstanding ski film performance awards at the Powder Magazine Video Awards, including “Best Female Performance” and “Breakthrough Performance” in 2005.
And Backstrom’s talent and skills don’t stop there. Backstrom also appeared in Mark Obenhaus’ Steep (2007), Claim (2008), In Deep (2009), The Way I See It (2010), G.N.A.R. (2011), Attack of La Nina (2011), and Superheroes of Stoke (2012) films.
Backstrom’s prowess is highlighted in this 4-minute athlete feature from Matchstick Productions’ Seven Sunny Days. It contains steep faces, mega-booters, giant cliffs, comebacks, and even a chase scene.
In the full version, you’ll recognize skiers Simon Dumont, Sammy Carlson, Jon Olsson, TJ Schiller, Mark Abma, Hugo Harrisson, Mike Wilson, Rory Bushfield, Eric Hjorleifson, Chris Rubens, Colby West, C.R. Johnson, Sarah Burke, James Heim, Shane McConkey, and Mike Douglas.
