Suunto’s 9 Peak has all the features of Suunto’s 9 Baro but only a fraction of the weight and bulk.
Most sports watches are wrist-top computers, and though impressively small for what they can do, are still unfortunately large for wearing on your wrist. And that’s doubly true for weight-weenie runners who count every gram in pursuit of peak performance.
But Suunto’s new 9 Peak sets a new size and weight standard for a fully featured watch. It’s 37% thinner and 36% lighter than its predecessor, Suunto’s Baro 9, with all the features of that watch and more.
Here’s what you need to know.
Suunto 9 Peak Sports Watch
The 9 Peak is the thinnest, smallest, and toughest watch Suunto has ever made. But it doesn’t skimp on features.
The watch has 80-plus sport modes including running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and swimming. It also features customizable screens to show the most relevant data for your exercise, as well as an intelligent battery management system.
The 9 Peak also sports accurate wrist-based heart rate monitoring, in-depth weather insights, and expansive on-watch navigation capabilities.
It allows route import and gives turn-by-turn navigation with Komoot. And the 9 Peak provides blood oxygen level measurements to help users better understand acclimation levels at higher altitudes.
Suunto 9 Peak + Suunto App
Using the watch with the Suunto app, users can plan routes with sport-specific heatmaps and popular starting points. They can also transfer routes to the watch for offline navigation.
The mobile app also helps users discover new locations, create points of interest, and look back on previous adventures with personal heatmaps. Bluetooth 5 doubles the sync speed between the watch and the Suunto app.
Battery Life
The Suunto 9 Peak also has the best in class battery life. It will last for up to 170 hours of GPS battery, and whatever screen you’re looking at, you’re not wasting battery. That’s because an automatic backlight intensity adjustment dims or brightens based on light conditions.
Plus, athletes who are always getting after it will appreciate the 9 Peak’s faster charging. The brand claims an hour for the watch to reach 100%.
‘Nordic Design’
Suunto was able to put its sports watch on a diet by building it with the highest grade of materials, including grade 5 titanium and a sapphire glass face. The brand says the watch has a new “Nordic design.”
It looks clean, simple, and classy. It’s available in two different styles with four nature-inspired colors: Granite Blue Titanium and Birch White Titanium, made with the aforementioned sapphire glass and grade 5 titanium. The All Black and Moss Gray styles are made with sapphire glass and stainless steel.
