The Gordini Challenge Mitt won us over as our best budget pick for mittens 2 years running. Find out why in this full review.
Here at GearJunkie, we don’t take mittens lightly. In winter, a pair of mittens can make or break your first experience in the cold, a day skiing, or anything else. So when these mitts won the spot for Best Budget Mitten in our Best Winter Mittens buyer’s guide, we knew we had something great (and warm, and easy on the wallet).
In short: Great weatherproofing, quality durability, warm insulation, and a functional design all make solid features of these winter mitts. But the best perk might be all of this at a low price — under 70 bucks.
In testing, the Challenge mitts out-performed several other budget options, thanks to their solid weatherproof exterior, textured palm grip, and more. Now, lots of mittens have these features. So most of all, we noticed the GORE-TEX Warm insert (the warmest waterproof-breathable membrane GORE-TEX makes for gloves). These mitts are toasty warm, and were able to easily handle temps in the negative on the snowiest of days.
Above all that, they don’t forgo technical features for cost. The mitts also have a nose wipe, leashes and pull tabs for easy on-and-off, and are even touchscreen compatible — a feature you see in most gloves but not all mitts.

Gordini Challenge Mitt Review
Overall, we were super impressed with these mitts over and over in testing — from early morning walks to shoveling snow, from skiing to winter hiking, and more. Thanks to the GORE-TEX Warm insert, they truly are warm — on top of waterproof, windproof, breathable, and easy to use and wear.
Our only con with these toasty-warm mitts? We found that the women’s version runs small (specifically tighter at the cuff), so consider double-checking your size or sizing up.
