Pretty Paint, Performance Parts: Limited-Edition 2025 Subaru BRZ Series.Purple

Subaru has painted the BRZ purple with gray cosmetic upgrades inside. But the Series.Purple has some real STI performance parts, too, to help make it a better drive.

The 2025 Subaru BRZ Series.Purple’s most obvious feature is its paintwork. It debuts a brand-new color called Galaxy Purple Pearl.

When it comes to the BRZ, Subaru loves its special paint jobs. This is the sixth special color edition the company has done in the last few years, with lurid shades setting most of them apart from regular editions of the sports coupe.

More Than Just a Paint Job

The latest one is that striking purple, but there’s more to the Series.Purple than just the paint.

There are other cosmetic changes, but let’s stick with the performance upgrades for now. Each of these special-edition BRZ coupes will get the Flexible V-Bar designed by Subaru Tecnica International, the automaker’s performance arm.

The Flexible V-Bar is a strut tower brace that bends in the middle. Yes, that sounds completely useless, but hold on a second. This is STI we’re talking about, and the team knows what it’s doing.

It attaches to each strut mount and the center of the firewall, as a typical chassis brace does. When cornering, it stiffens the chassis, giving the car a sharper turn-in and more responsiveness.

But just making the car stiffer is bad for vibration and comfort. So, STI added joints to the bar that are hidden under cosmetic covers. They let the bar move when the car is taking impacts from bumps but hold stiff when the forces are transverse.

The bar is supposed to deliver the best of both worlds, a mix of increased chassis rigidity in the direction that matters without wrecking the ride. It’s not a new part, but this is the first time it’s been on a BRZ from the factory.

Short-Throw Shifter, Gray Accents Join Flexible V-Bar

OK, back to the cosmetics. The cabin has gray stitching on the steering wheel, door panels, shift boot, and the seats, with the color exclusive to this car. There is a red STI-logo start button, and the car has gray seat bolsters.

While Subaru was playing around inside, the team also replaced the shifter. It’s a short-throw STI part, and so it gets the STI logo on the knob to let you know.

The 2025 Subaru BRZ Series.Purple is based on the Limited trim car and will be sold only with a six-speed stick. The $35,445 price tag is $1,700 more than a Limited in a boring color, but it’s still cheaper than the BRZ tS. And, the tS doesn’t get a Flexible V-bar for you to brag about to your friends.
