As snow starts to cover the high country, the ski season has a way of arriving before your gear is ready. After all, few outdoor pursuits ask as much of your closet (and your credit card). A full setup means skis, bindings, boots, poles, a helmet, gloves, outerwear, plus insulating layers and accessories. Piecing it together à la carte means juggling sizing, compatibility, shopping and shipping from multiple places before you ever click in.

Research can remove some of that sting. You can narrow the field with guides to the best all-mountain skis, best ski boots, and best backcountry ski bindings, plus our winter snowsports gear guide to round out the rest of the kit. Once the picks are made, one hurdle remains: getting everything mounted and ready to rip. Backcountry now takes that off your plate, too.

In addition to selling some of the best ski boots, bindings, and skis, the Utah retailer-outfitter is now offering ski mounting. Instead of waiting for a shop slot after new skis arrive, customers can add mounting at checkout and have a Gearhead Expert mount their bindings before the order leaves the warehouse. Here’s how it works.

Built for Complete Ski Packages

The service is designed for complete setups: skis, bindings, and boots purchased together, like Backcountry’s ski packages. Bindings are mounted and set to a neutral DIN as a starting point, with one service per ski and binding pair.

Boots aren’t required, though. Skiers who already own boots can still add mounting, as long as they provide their boot sole length (BSL) on the setup form.

How to Add Ski Mounting

  1. Add it at checkout. Customers add Ski Mounting ($60) to their cart with their skis and bindings, then check out as usual.
  2. Complete the form. After the order goes through, Backcountry emails a short form asking for height, weight, ability level, and BSL (if boots weren’t in the order).
  3. Return it within 72 hours. Forms submitted in that window get bindings mounted before the skis ship.
  4. Fit and ride. Skis arrive mounted and ready for final fitting.
