Insulated flannel jackets are the perfect answer to cold nights. They offer the warmth of a coat and the comfort of a flannel.
When temps dip low but you’re not quite ready to give up your flannel shirt, it’s time to reach for a jacket — made of flannel, of course. Also known as a “truck flannel” or “shacket,” these insulated shirt-jackets will keep you warm well into the winter season.
The Best Women’s Flannel Jackets
Armada Ruston Flannel Hoodie – $90
When you can’t choose between a flannel and hoodie, go with the Ruston. The 40g polyfill provides the perfect amount of jacket warmth, and a jersey lining gives it that sweatshirt comfort.
For me, the classic, big, plaid flannel and black snaps remind me of being a kid and heading to the farmer-filled coffee shop with my grandpa for a morning of weather predictions and crop talk. Whether remembering your agricultural roots, playing at the local surf break, or heading into the mountains, the Ruston Flannel Hoodie is a winner.
Shop Armada FlannelKavu Highland Insulated Jacket – $85
This jacket manages to somehow blend old-school lumberjack with modern fashion into a jacket that works hard and looks great doing it. Stash your chapstick in the single chest pocket and stick your hands in the deep front pockets.
Made of 100% cotton and insulated with a polyester fill, this insulated flannel provides plenty of warmth to keep you toasty during late-night campfire sessions. And did you see the buttons? I know. They’re downright adorable.

There’s something special about baby-soft fleece lining that makes me never want to take it off. This jacket is one step up from a heavy-duty flannel and is a solid option for après-ski or cold camp nights.
The cotton-wool blend makes it both soft and warm, and the nylon-lined sleeves make pulling it on and off easy. If you’re looking for a cozy version of a classic flannel, this is the perfect jacket for you.
Shop Kuhl FlannelVolcom Circle Flannel Jacket With Hood – $100
This one has a more tailored fit for the petite flannel lovers out there. It can run a bit tight through the shoulders, but otherwise it offers a cute take on the flannel jacket with a hood. While it’s not the most technical flannel jacket out there, it could be your perfect fit for the shoulder season and warmer winter days. Plus, the cozy fleece hood adds an extra layer when you forget your beanie.
Shop Volcom FlannelToad & Co Brekinridge Parka – $229
This darling puffy flannel is nearly surpassing jacket territory and entering the world of the winter coat. Regardless, it’s awesome. The blown-in polyester fill keeps you plenty warm, and the durable water repellent (DWR) provides a useful defense against wet conditions. At 1.6 pounds, it’s not for the lightweight minimalists—but anyone looking for a stylish, functional, wool puffy flannel should check out the Brekinridge Parka.
Shop Toad & Co FlannelDuluth Trading Co. Flapjack Flannel Jac – $65
Gone are the days of drooling over my boyfriend’s well-worn flannel jacket with an excess of deep pockets. Duluth Trading Co. finally made a women’s competitor, the Flapjack. With six pockets total, you can stash what you need and leave your purse behind. My favorite feature is the hidden glasses cleaner below the bottom button.
On the back, you’ll find two hidden vertical stretch panels to help you move comfortably, and two adjustable tabs that allow for a more feminine cut (if that’s your style). At $65, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal.

We haven’t tested this one yet, but we can’t wait to get our hands on it. Partly because it looks great, with contrasting fabrics and old-school elbow patches. But mostly because it’s constructed of an unusual Seawool fabric, which is made from recycled oyster shells. To top it off, it’s coated with a DWR finish to withstand the elements and has cozy pockets that are plenty big enough to warm your hands and stash your phone.
