From a young age, Tharler has had a penchant for geeky watches and other fun gadgets. In 1995, a few years after college, he attended his first Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. In 1997, Tharler began his journalism career by writing tips of the day for PC World about Microsoft Outlook (at the time, a brand new productivity software).
Tharler continued to create other daily tips, eventually parlaying that experience into regular tech columns for Discovery News and Fodor’s Travel – winning a coveted travel journalism award for his work with the latter.
Since then, he has attended CES dozens of times and written about pretty much every kind of consumer electronics product for a long list of well-known outlets. Along the way, he’s written and contributed to a bevy of books. And in the fall of 2020, Tharler launched The Family CTO podcast to help household tech decision-makers discover gadgets that elevate their home and travel lifestyles.
More recently, Tharler forayed into writing about outdoor gear, such as coolers, backpacks, tents and other key items. He continues writing as a freelancer and looks forward to launching his own site in the near future.
