Get ready to watch the new parts and accessories design group Fabric. Nick Larsen (formerly of Charge saddles) is a design wizard, and he is approaching bike saddle design like Apple’s Jonathon Ive approached the cell phone. Expect this company to shake things up.

Strong, light and flexy. Available fall 2014

First, the rumored collaboration between Fabric and the Aerospace design firm Airbus was confirmed. They worked together during the production process of Fabric’s new carbon saddles. Called the ALM (additive layer manufacturing), this future model will be their flagship and is the finest saddle I’ve ever seen. So simple, gorgeous, and functional.

Strangely, the collaboration with Airbus largely failed. Their involvement was with the development of a 3D printed titanium saddle rail that did not make it into production. Instead, Nick found a high-end hockey stick/golf club carbon fiber manufacturer that was able to beat Airbus’ weight and performance characteristics using carbon fiber.

Does this image give you a clue about which shoe company makes Fabric’s “cell” saddle?

Fabric’s collaboration with manufacturers like Airbus is not the only “outside the box” partnership. They even reached out to a well known shoe manufacturing facility to develop their upcoming “Cell” saddle. It’s really cool looking and comfortable as well.
