Bosch eBikes legitimize electric bike market – Electric bikes are for real now. Surprised? I was, too. I rode a full-suspension MTB equipped with Bosch’s Performance Line drive system and walked away very impressed.

We rode Lapierre’s Overvolt, a 27.5 full suspension MTB.

After the laughter wears off, the seamless assistance of the system starts to disappear, and it makes riding a different experience than on a normal bike. Steep becomes flatter, far away becomes closer, and fast becomes easier.

Bosch’s pedal-assist system functions based on chain tension and speed, adding power on top of the power the pedaler provides, from 80 up to 350 watts of additional power. Bosch’s “pedelecs” (pedal electric cycles) are not powerful enough to skid the tire, just enough to make you feel bionic. We’re confident that this system will find happy users both on the mountain and in the city.
