Integrated transmission compatible with full suspension must be seen to be believed – We walked away from the Cavalerie booth thinking we may have just seen into the future of gravity bikes. Cavalerie breaks the mold by utilizing an integrated transmission and Gates belt drive.

A complex feat of engineering is not as heavy as it looks, just about 100gr. heavier than a traditional drivetrain

The Effigear integrated transmission puts all of the components of a traditional drivetrain into a sealed system that offers a very compelling package of benefits: It places the drive train out of harms way; puts the bike’s mass low and centered between the wheels, especially important in the gravity scene; minimizes maintenance with just an oil change every 6 to 12 months depending on usage; and actually works well.

I gave it a test and liked the performance. Although I missed the clicking of a traditional shifter, the transmission worked flawlessly and can even drop gears under load, such as in a rock garden.

Designs are available now. Philthy Bikes sells the Squirrel as well as a 200mm downhill bike and a 185mm freeride bike with the system.
