Ergon’s “poor man’s rear suspension” is well designed. – Although road bike comfort is a focus for many brands today, buying a new bike frame is not a realistic option for most cyclists; a new seatpost is.
Ergon’s CF3 pro carbon is the first seatpost that promises to take the edge off and not come with a large weight penalty. In fact, the post is lighter than an average road bike post.
The cost, at $299, is not low. But compared to buying a new bike, it’s an attractive option. The design is based on a pair of carbon fiber blades that work together like leaf springs to allow them to flex in a rearward arc when the rear wheel hits a bump in the road. The design is well thought out, as we are used to seeing from Ergon. The post is on shelves now.
