Specialized Limited-Edition Tarmac Celebrates World Champ With Only 200 Units

If you follow competitive cycling even a little, you probably know the name Remco Evenepoel. 

The 22-year-old upstart from Belgium crushed the competitive racing circuit in 2022, winning 16 races that culminated with a World Championship in Wollongong, Australia. He also became the youngest world champion in 29 years and the fourth rider ever to add a world title to a Monument and Grand Tour win in the same season.

Since Evenepoel won the World Championship with a Specialized Tarmac SL7 frameset, it should come as no surprise the brand made a limited-edition version celebrating the rider’s newfound place in the history books. 

The 200 individually numbered framesets will roll out to celebrate “one of the greatest athletes of our generation,” Specialized said in a press release.

Specialized clearly wanted to make sure its new frameset looks like the tool of a winner. 

It comes with luminescent hues over a pearl background. Designer Elena Aker said the appearance is intended to symbolize the moment Evenepoel became a World Champion road racer.

There’s also a World Champion’s badge on the top tube — an image of a rising sun that doubles as a globe. On a seatstay, you’ll find the phrase: “Legends are built not born.” One of the fork legs also has a “subtle nod” to the 10 Elite Men’s Road World Championship victories achieved on Specialized bikes in the past 20 years, the company said. 

Over the course of the 2022 season, Evenepoel spent more than 60 race miles in the saddle of his Tarmac bike, according to Specialized. 

“Did any rider on the World Tour spend more time alone in winning moves than Remco?” the press release said. “We don’t think so, but feel free to try and prove us wrong.” 

The Remco’s Reign S-Works Tarmac SL7 Frameset costs $6,000 in the U.S., €5,700 in Europe, £‎5,000 in the U.K., and $9,000 in Australia.
