In Northern Scotland, just outside Inverness and across the way from Loch Ness lies Dundreggan Reservoir. When the dam is releasing water, this Scottish classic turns on “for lap after lap of stoke.”
Top to bottom, the Upper and Lower Moriston features less than 2 km of whitewater. The Upper’s a great warmup, while the “steeper, more committing Lower delivers back-to-back waterfalls stacked into tight basalt gorges.” There are some gorgeous drops, narrow lines, and sick slow-mo footage. And, no surprise given the short film’s name, there’s lots of stoke going around.
These lads and lasses (via production company 286°W producer and slalom athlete Amber Maslen, and NRS) know what they’re doing. As paddler Pretam Gurung says, “Keep it light, keep it tight.”
The best time to run it is April-November. So hey, there’s plenty of time yet.
Kayakers featured: Rhys Thomson, Kyle Rodger, Pretam Gurung, Taylor Stevenson, and Rowan Andrews.
Runtime: 7 minutes of stoke
