In partnership with The Gear Fund Collective, SCARPA will be hosting a used outdoor gear drive this week.

SCARPA and The Gear Fund Collective have come together for a do-good collab — a gear drive. Collection for the gear drive will occur August 3-5 at The Big Gear Show (BGS) in Park City, Utah. Throughout BGS, SCARPA and SLC-based The Gear Fund Collective will collect donations of previously owned outdoor gear at a convenient in-house dropoff location.

Acceptable items include lightly used or new apparel, footwear, camping gear, and sports equipment. Donors can find the drive dropoff at booth number 527 at the show in Deer Valley Resort, Park City, Utah.

All of the donated gear will go to athletes from historically marginalized communities.

Why Used Gear? SCARPA’s Initiative, and More

The donation drive is part of SCARPA’s Athlete Mentorship Initiative, which aims to overcome socioeconomic barriers and create a more inclusive, supportive outdoor community. Incorporating the Gear Fund Collective’s redistribution methods allows SCARPA to dovetail its equality-focused initiatives with its sustainable objectives too.

According to SCARPA North America marketing manager Melanie Hood, access to affordable outdoor equipment and apparel is often a barrier for many. Better access to typically expensive gear like climbing shoes or ski equipment could be the difference between someone picking up a new sport or avoiding it altogether.

“We understand that there are so many factors involved, [and] we’re committed to supporting growing outdoor participation to the best of our ability in every way that we can. We’ve been able to pass along some SCARPA gear to the fund, and we’re hopeful that the outdoor industry community will join us in doing the same,” Hood stated.

Initiatives like SCARPA and GFC’s do a lot to raise awareness and inspire more like it. If you aren’t able to donate to the drive in Utah in person, learn about how else to donate gear to the Gear Fund Collective.
