January is the biggest month for resolutions. So Life Time Fitness is letting everyone kick off a New Year’s fitness routine for free on January 1.
The annual Life Time Commitment Day has been around for a few years. In fact, the brand claims hundreds of thousands have participated since 2013.
Still, you might not know that on a day when many businesses take the day off, all 141 Life Time locations throughout U.S. and Canada will open as usual. And best of all, Commitment Day — January 1, 2019 — is free for everyone.

The point of the program is to help people break the trend of failed New Year’s resolutions. According to U.S. News and World Report, some 80 percent of resolutions fail each year. Life Time said its intent is to remove any access, ability, or financial hurdles with the free day for all.
“Research continues to show how little exercise we’re getting — oftentimes less than 25 percent of Americans based on federal standard,” Jeff Zwiefel, Life Time chief operating officer, said in a press release about Commitment Day.
Life Time Free Commitment Day: How It Works
Life Time Commitment Day includes no-charge entry for free weights, pools, and sports courts, plus complimentary group fitness, indoor cycle, and yoga classes for all levels. Joiners can also tap on-site health and wellness experts to help set some goals for 2019.

Some Life Time clubs are also kicking off the annual free day with an outdoor or indoor 5K at 10 a.m. on January 1. Day-of registration for the race is $40, but register in December and save $5. That includes a T-shirt and social brunch. Kids 12 and under are free.
