The biggest Lexus just earned more refinement, power, and off-road capability. Announced this week, the Lexus LX 700h adds a 457-horsepower hybrid system to the luxurious beast, making it the automaker’s 12th electrified option.

And a new Overtrail grade targets overlanders with features like a trio of locking differentials. Here’s what we know about the 2025 Lexus LX 700h.

2025 Lexus LX: Hybrid, Big Torque

With 409 horsepower from a 3.4L twin-turbo V6, the latest-generation Lexus LX wasn’t exactly lagging on power versus the old V8 it replaced. But what seemed missing from the model was hybrid power. That engine and motor system has proven smoother, quieter, and more fuel-efficient, making it the signature of Lexus and Toyota in the last decade.

That all changed with the Lexus LX 700h. The big number in the name means big everything, starting with hybrid motors added to the twin-turbo V6. That results in 457 horses with a stump-pulling 583 pound-feet of torque.

It uses a 10-speed automatic transmission; while most Toyota and Lexus hybrids use only an electric motor to drive the rear tires, this one uses a real driveshaft and rear axle. Like the system used on Toyota pickups, this stands as a real 4×4 beast. Just like the gas version, it can tow up to 8,000 pounds.

Lexus expects it to deliver 20 mpg combined. That’s not a big improvement over the 19 mpg combined the gas model offers, but actual performance will depend on your drive and driving habits.

Three Lockers for Overtrail Hybrid

Every 2025 LX receives a Torsen limited-slip and locking center differential for 50:50 power distribution. Move up to the Overtrail grade, which is exclusive to the 700h, and you also get electronically controlled lockers for the front and rear differentials.

Other Overtrail extras include 33-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels. The model has a front skid plate for off-road protection, along with a matte gray grille and dark roof rails and trim for unique looks.

Lexus also adds the Earth-colored exterior paint from the 2024 GX and black or stone-brown semi-aniline leather to help make the Overtrail feel more luxurious.

It will offer two rows of seating for more cargo space or three rows for more passengers. Both get a 2,400W AC inverter and all-weather floor liners.

Hybrid LX: Backup Starter and Alternator

The hybrid models will carry an alternator and a 12V starter. Previous Lexus hybrids skipped those parts, using the hybrid system’s inverter and motors to handle those jobs. Adding both means that if the hybrid system should fail, the LX will still start and can still drive on just the gas engine.

It’s also the first Lexus to have electric motor power in low range. Drivers will be able to use solely electric power if they want when they’re in 4-Lo, which Lexus says allows for more precise throttle control.

Toyota did not announce pricing for the 2025 Lexus LX 700h, which will be available at dealers at the start of 2025. We expect a hike over the $93,915 starting price of the 2024 LX 600, especially for the Overtrail grade.
