“The reason I signed up for this endeavor, this journey in my life, this adventure, is because I know that if I accomplish this, there’s a million other things in the world that are going to be harder, or just as hard, that I can accomplish as well.”

That’s endurance athlete Morgon Latimore’s attitude toward his first ultra trail race, the UTMB World Series Speedgoat 50K. In the 2022 race, Latimore and the rest of the field would cover well over 10,000 feet of elevation gain over 31 miles of choppy terrain in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon.

I’ve known a U.S. Marine or two, and as such, Latimore’s hard-nosed but growth-oriented take on the challenge didn’t surprise me. For a clinic on preparation and execution, watch him train for the race, then show up with his game face on in this quick series.
