Empower yourself. Empower each other. Join World Bicycle Relief in a global community ride.

Bicycles are a simple but transformative machine. They offer a clean form of transportation, easy exercise, and more. Today, the World Bicycle Relief nonprofit announced its first worldwide community ride, scheduled for September 12.

The ride has just one goal: empower female riders across the world to join in and celebrate the power of bikes. Everyone is welcome to join, and you can ride wherever — and whatever — you’d like.

There’s no official race route, no required distance — just get out and ride. Participants are encouraged to ride with friends, form teams, join WBR’s Strava Club to track routes and personal stats, and more. World Bicycle Relief is also encouraging everyone who registers to fundraise enough to donate a bike to the cause.

“All riders are encouraged to fundraise at least one life-changing bicycle ($147) to help women and girls conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence, and thrive,” WBR wrote in its press release.

Because WBR is a nonprofit, there’s an entrance fee of $25, but all proceeds will go to provide bikes to girls in developing regions. To learn more and sign up for the event, click here.

The Global Ride

World Bicycle Relief even designed a virtual kit with fun tools for riders who join. The kit includes tools and perks like route challenges, suggestions, fundraising prizes, and more. And you’ll get access to the organization’s app that will link you with riders around the world.

Route-planning for hundreds of regions will also be available through komoot if you choose to map your ride.

More on World Bicycle Relief

World Bicycle Relief is a nonprofit that to date has delivered over 500,000 bicycles to those without transportation across the world. The organization specifically designs and modifies bikes to fit the lifestyles of recipients, like students, healthcare workers, and young professionals in rural communities.

The bikes that WBR donates are also pretty special — tailored to the needs of those in rural regions. The Buffalo Bicycle is engineered for heavy loads, long mileage on dirt and uneven terrain, and has features like puncture-resistant tires and a 220-pound rear-carry capacity.

World Bicycle Relief also trains local bike assemblers and field mechanics, which supports off-grid communities, creates new revenue streams, and provides reliable transportation.
