Women-Only Gear, Adventure Summit This Summer

This summer, 1000 women will camp, hike, explore, and party at two new events in California and Utah.

Called the REI Outessa Summit, the first-of-its-kind event series for women offers three days of scheduled outdoor activities, product demos, classes, and guided excursions with professional outdoor athletes and guides.

The weekend events, produced by Eventus Outdoors, will cater to experienced outdoorswomen and newbies alike via outdoor education, free time recreation, and guided adventures for women.

Kirkwood Resort at Lake Tahoe, Calif., will host the first weekend (August 19 -21); Powder Mountain, Utah, then hosts the second event (September 9 -11).

Cost is $749 to register, which includes all meals, wine and beer, and “all the activities you want and more as well as a gift that is valued around $200 a person,” the organization states.

Personalities, Gear, Guides On-Site

REI Outdoor School instructors plus pro outdoor-athletes will be on hand to run clinics on camping, backpacking, kayaking, outdoor cooking, mountain biking, paddle boarding, rock climbing, yoga, hiking, trail running and more.

REI is the title sponsor, and supporting brands include prAna, Osprey, Cannondale, BIC SUP, Petzl, Big Agnes, Trigger Point, ENO, ORU Kayak, Salomon, nuun, Taylor Maid Farms, Goal Zero, Amy’s Kitchen, GCI Outdoor, SmartyPants Vitamins, Lagunitas, ProBar, Clif Bar, Picky Bar, Honey Stinger, Hint, Dirty Gourmet, World Peas, Tandem, Rinse, GoMacro, Stance, Native, ElliptiGO, Igloo and Dandies.

These companies will offer hands-on experiences with their products as well as product trials and samples.

The event is open to 500 women for each weekend. Lodging and camping are available, including a unique option where the organization will allow attendees who do not camp to purchase tents and equipment at registration.

It will then be set up on site, letting the attendee learn how to use the camping gear and take it home with her for adventures ahead.
