DIVE: Humpback Whale Swallows Lobster Diver Whole, Man Survives. Michael Packard, 56, was out lobster diving off Herring Cove Beach in Cape Cod when he was suddenly swallowed whole by a whale. The father of two estimated he was “in the whale for 30 to 40 seconds,” reported the Cape Cod Times, before he was thankfully spit out. He is recovering from minor injuries. Experts are calling the event an accidental encounter.

RIDE: Trek Employs Dozens of Bike Shops to Help Host 2021 ‘Pride Rides.’ On June 27, Trek is hosting a nationwide “Pride Ride.” Over 78 bike shops in 30 states (and Canada) will take part in hosting the event. Trek will also be donating a total of $75,000 across multiple LGBTQIA+ organizations in each of the participating cities.

FKT: Ryan Montgomery Sets Marathon FKT on Historic Utah Rail Trail. Twenty-five-year-old ultrarunner Ryan Montgomery has set a new FKT on the Historic Union Pacific Trail, finishing in 2 hours 48 minutes 36 seconds. The trail runs 26.7 miles over dirt and pavement, following old Union Pacific railroad lines.

BRAND: Wahoo Fitness Sponsors First Runner for Ultra Race. Cycling brand Wahoo’s first partnership with a runner will be with Arizonian Jim Walmsley, who won the last two editions of the Western States 100 and holds the current course record of 14:09:28. “We’re so excited to have Jim join our team,” said Wahoo founder Chip Hawkins. “We look forward to supporting him in all of his endeavors, and also to adding more runners to our community.”
