It’s hard to understand how a racing champ can balance a healthy outlook with the competitiveness needed to win.

But in this breezy interview from bike apparel company Velocio, somehow Alex Howes sounds like he’s cracked the code.

“I just want to race. I want to have fun doing it. I think we take that for what it is,” he said. “I don’t even mind racing when I completely get my ass kicked.”

So what’s next for Howes? Well, he plans to spend the year racing whatever he feels like, which evidently includes “gravel, mountain bike, maybe a little bit of road, with a focus on Life Time Grand Prix.”
