There’s a new family of all-terrain tires coming in 2025 from Pirelli. The Scorpion XTM AT will be Pirelli’s most aggressive and off-road-capable tire yet, and will only be offered in the North American market.
Pirelli is a top-tier tire manufacturer and is heavily involved in the top echelons of a wide range of sports that need tires. From Formula 1 to extreme freeride mountain biking to top road cycling, Pirelli has high-performance tires to meet the needs of top-performing vehicles.
The forthcoming Scorpion XTM AT is designed to be the performance, year-round, do-everything tire for both gas and electron-powered North American SUVs and trucks.
“The Scorpion XTM line is a testament to Pirelli’s commitment to continuously developing products specifically tailored to the needs of North American drivers,” said Claudio Zanardo, CEO of Pirelli North America. “We recognize the importance of meeting regional demands, and the XTM is designed to do exactly that — delivering exceptional performance across the diverse terrains and conditions that drivers in this region encounter.”
Pirelli Scorpion Tire Legacy
The Scorpion tire family by Pirelli is well known to offer impressive on-road performance, especially on an SUV, while enabling off-pavement adventures. Pirelli says it’s taking “this legacy to the next level by pushing the Scorpion family to its extreme.
The XTM is designed to deliver outstanding off-road capability, specifically engineered to meet the rugged demands of all-terrain driving, making it the ultimate tire for those seeking adventure on any surface.”
Pirelli also says “XTM” stands for “extreme performance.” It is specifically targeted at North American modern truck and off-road enthusiasts with its aggressive styling and advanced technologies.
Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT
While we don’t know many specifics yet, we do know the XTM will be the most off-road capable all-terrain tire to carry the Pirelli Scorpion name. It will have an aggressive reinforced shoulder and sidewall and a high-void tread pattern. This all equates to a tire designed to find traction and last in dirt, gravel, rock, and mud terrains.
We also know it will carry the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rating, which means it should perform well in cold, icy, and snowy conditions. The mountains are calling!
The Scorpion XTM will carry a 55,000-mile limited warranty, which is one of the best in its segment.
It has also been announced that the Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT will be available in a range of LT, HL, Floatation, and P-Metric sizes — 40 sizes in total. These tires will fit wheels ranging from 17 to 24 inches. Specifically, Pirelli has already said it will have sizes appropriate for popular North American vehicle models like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Ram 1500, Rivian R1T, and Chevy Silverado EV.
ICE & EV Scorpion XTM
Besides just fitting both internal combustion (ICE) and battery-electric (BEV) vehicles, the Scorpion XTM will come in two tire types designed specifically for those powertrain types.
I asked my contacts at Pirelli what the difference between the two tires in the same family was, and this was thier response:
“The main differences between the EV and ICE versions are in their construction and performance optimization. The EV version is designed to handle the unique weight distribution and torque of electric vehicles, offering lower rolling resistance to maximize battery efficiency, while the ICE version is tailored for traditional combustion engine vehicles. Both versions will have subtle visual differences but share a similar design.”
The EV version of the Scorpion XTM will also feature Pirelli’s ELECT technology, which “emphasizes low rolling resistance and noise reduction to maximize range and efficiency for electric vehicles.”
The ICE version of the Scorpion XTM “emphasizes robust off-road grip, durability, and highway comfort for trucks.”
