The Highland Kings Ultramarathon will dish up a challenging four-stage course along with ultra-luxurious amenities.

Have you ever wondered what an ultra-luxurious ultramarathon experience would look like? In April 2022, 40 ultramarathoners will get to find out at the Highland Kings Ultramarathon. The slogan for this multiday Scotland adventure is “Race like a warrior. Recover like a king.”

Organized by Primal Adventures, a luxury travel company based in Scotland, the race is touted as “the most exclusive, multi-day, luxury ultra-run experience on the planet.”

The 120-mile, 4-day event boasts butlers, Michelin-rated chefs, hydrotherapy pools, private coaches — and a $21,500 price tag. This substantial entry fee not only includes the 4-day event — it also incorporates 7 months of personalized training leading up to race day.

Coaches like Jonathan Albon, an ultrarunning world champion, and Anna-Marie Watson, an accomplished ultrarunner and former British Army operative, will guide participants through their training. According to the event website, if you can jog for 30 minutes or cycle for an hour, you have the starting fitness to train for this event.

This is all part of the event’s unparalleled offering, which includes equipping the 40 participants with the tools they need to prepare physically, mentally, and nutritionally for the event.

Runners will also get decked out with a top-of-the-line endurance kit. This kit will include a preprogrammed Garmin MARQ watch, ThruDark athletic clothing pack, Precision Hydration, WHOOP Biometric Device, and Ultimate Direction race vest.

Highland Kings Ultramarathon: Stunning Scenery and Serious Ascent

After 7 months of training, participants will set out to tackle the four stages. The route traverses forested trails, quiet country roads, sheep tracks, and coastal paths.

Runners will face challenges like boggy terrain and steep mountain climbs. Sweeping views of the Scottish wilderness and west coast highlight the course.

  • Stage 1: 26 miles | 2,597-ft. ascent
  • Stage 2: 32 miles | 2,419-ft. ascent
  • Stage 3: 34 miles | 2,558-ft. ascent
  • Stage 4: 28 miles | 6,001-ft. ascent

The last stage ends with a gala banquet held at a castle. There, the legendary explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes will be the honorary guest speaker. Fiennes holds the distinction of being the only man alive ever to have traveled around the Earth’s circumpolar surface.
