Ditch Your Car For ‘Velomobile’

Three wheels, an enclosed shell, and space for cargo (and even a small kid!) — if you live in a city, this car/bike hybrid could be your vehicle of the future.

Called the Virtue Pedalist, this to-be-released enclosed tricycle can be outfitted with electric power. You can pedal it, too, or use an electric-assist option.

“Many drivers would love to leave the car at home and commute by bicycle but often times they were discouraged by inclement weather,” said Virtue Cycles owner William Mulyadi.

Virtue decided to meet them half-way — the Pedalist’s outer shell is made to protect from light rain, wind, sun, and heat.

At 35 inches wide and 96 inches long, the Pedalist can go most places a bicycle can travel — even through most house or office doors.

The interior front cargo space is large enough to carry extra batteries to extend the range, as well as transport groceries, books, and even a small child in a car seat.

A second passenger can sit in the space behind the rider.

Just like a normal e-Bike, no license and registration is required in most cities.

Virtue Cycles will offer the Pedalist with a 750W electric motor & 48v 32A li-ion battery for a claimed range of 50+ miles per charge.

It has three cycling modes — pure pedal, pedal assist (the electric motor multiplies your pedaling power), and full electric throttle, which is limited to 20 mph.

Standard components include an internally-geared 8-speed hub, magnesium wheels, and disc brakes. It has built-in head and tail lights.

The vehicle has a fund-raising goal of $100,000. If the company reaches this goal, it could result in a mass-produced alternative to cars.
