A camper company you’ve never heard of has just launched a slide-in camper for the world’s most controversial pickup. The Hotomobil CyberGlad is tailored to the oddly angled box of the Tesla pickup, but it’s also tailored to its customers.
The camper was revealed at a Bitcoin conference, and it claims to be the first camper ever sold in cryptocurrency.
New Name Here, But Big in Europe
Turkish camping outfitters Hotomobil aren’t exactly well-known in the U.S., but the company does have some serious credentials. It has EU type-approval certification for some models, as well as approval certificates from Stellantis and Volkswagen.
The CyberGlad is based around the company’s Gladiator slide-in line, which is made for mid- and full-sized pickups. It describes this variant of it as “a custom model developed for new vehicle platforms,” which is a very kind way to talk about the Cybertruck’s angular … everything.
CyberGlad is designed to be installed and removed without tools. With its electric extending legs, it can be ready to go camping in 4 minutes, the company said. And, we’re assuming, it’s ready to go back on the road in the same amount of time. It’s not the first Cybertruck-dedicated slide-in, but it might be the second.
Well-Insulated & Well-Appointed
The Hotomobil CyberGlad is meant to be a four-season camper. Nearly an inch of insulation helps keep it toasty inside. Though the black finish might also keep it toasty inside if you’re parked somewhere with a lot of sun.
It’s built to fit in the footprint of the Cybertruck’s box. It is 9 feet, 9 inches long, just over 6 feet wide, and 73 inches tall when you’re inside. In that small space, Hotomobil has crammed a kitchen and dinette, with a sink, countertop, and fridge.
If you need more space, the CyberGlad expands. The cabover section can extend to allow north-south sleeping. You can add a rooftop tent to the package and sleep up to five.
Hotomobile CyberGlad Is Built With Cybertruck in Mind
A Hotomobil CyberGlad with the electric jacks weighs 1,445 pounds, thanks in part to the one-piece fiberglass shell. The Cybertruck has a maximum payload of 2,500 pounds, so there’s room for 1,078 pounds of passengers, gear, food, and water.
We’ve avoided the CyberGlad’s elephant in the room, though — the design. Hotomobil calls it aerodynamic, and compared with a standard truck camper, that may be true. But this doesn’t look like any other slide-in. The one nice thing we’ll say about it is that the design matches the truck, even if it doesn’t come in stainless.
Pay in Crypto
Now, back to the Bitcoin. Hotomobil says this is the first camper offered in Bitcoin, but the MSRP is listed as $66,600. You’ll need to get in contact with the company to get that price in BTC, probably because it can have massive swings hour by hour. But that’s some of the fun, right? Trying to time it just perfectly to min-max the market and make out like the bandit trader you are.
The Hotomobil CyberGlad order books are open now, though Hotomobil hasn’t set a date for deliveries to start.
