In the constant march forward to make multitools even more, well, “multi-tooled,” Gerber has a neat new implement. On its to-be-released “Steady” model the company adds a camera mount and legs that position the tool for converting it to a tripod.
Its standard screw size will let you mount on mini cameras, smartphones, or SLRs. Fold out the two legs, set the auto-timer, and hit the shutter — the Steady tool is made for self portraits, group photos, and requisite summit shots on high peaks. Time-lapse and night shots are other tripod-required photographic tasks.
Gerber won’t release the Steady until 2012. It will cost $65. Details are sparse beyond the tripod feature, though the company says the Steady has a blade and a total of 12 implements in all.
