Backcountry.com unveiled a new apparel brand this week called Stoic. Complete with technical shell jackets for skiing or climbing, plus items like weld-seamed gloves and burly bibs, the company says the line is “premium technical gear that is made for people who spend most of their time in the mountains.”
Pronounced “stoe-ik” (not stoke), the new brand is the offspring of the three-year-old Backcountry.com private label. It was created with the help and feedback from the hundreds of members of Backcountry.com’s “Gear Guru” community, which includes professional and everyday outdoors people and provides real-world testing.
Stoic pieces for this winter include the Bombshell insulated jacket, which costs $329 and utilizes a microfiber synthetic insulation and a proprietary waterproof-breathable membrane. It allows for a bit of stretch, protection from precipitation, and its insulation keeps you warm. There’s a matching lower half, the Bombshell Bib. Both come in a women’s versions.
There’s a softshell jacket the company touts “will out-breathe the best Lamaze gurus and fend off precip like a Cockatiel’s oily feathers.” There are also gloves in this collection.
