Toyota is really drawing out the reveal of the 2024 Tacoma. We’ve been getting little nuggets of information for a while now. But, finally, we know when we’ll get to see it all: May 19, 2023.
With this latest teaser, we can also assume a few new things about what has to be one of the most anticipated new trucks in many years. For one, there will be multiple cab and bed configurations, something becoming more and more rare. Gladiator, Colorado, and Canyon now only come in crew-cab short-bed.
Now, let’s dive into these latest teaser images and see what they can tell us.
2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro
This truck is likely the TRD Pro, in a double-cab five-foot bed configuration. It is missing a front lower air-dam, looks to have good ground clearance, and has rear recovery hooks.
The telltale hood bulge, as seen with current TRD Pro hoods, also gives this silhouette away.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter
This is likely the Trailhunter edition. The baja bar in the truck bed and roof rack styling is similar to the Tundra Trailhunter concept, which Toyota showed at SEMA 2022. You can also see a rear tow-hook, which we were already teased with on the rear ARB bumper (seen on the Tacoma Trailhunter teaser).
The possible Tacoma TRD Pro silhouette above also has these recovery hooks. Maybe the TRD Pro will also get a rear ARB bumper?
Interestingly, the Trailhunter silhouette above does not have the hood bulge like the TRD Pro.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Ext-Cab Long Bed
This image looks to have a shorter cab and a longer bed. Likely, it is an access cab six-foot bed truck, a very rare combo on today’s midsize truck market, but something Toyota has always offered on the Tacoma. Many trucks in this category are going to exclusively double-cab five-foot truck bed configurations — although the Ranger and Frontier seem to be holding out and offering multiple cab/bed setups as well.
2024 Toyota Tacoma: What We Know
While we don’t know a ton of details, we do know a few things. A hybrid powertrain will be on offer, we’ll finally get four-wheel disc brakes, a six-speed manual will be available, a portable JBL speaker that pops out of the dash will be available, and we’ll get a Trailhunter version with off-road hardware from ARB.
We’ll just have to wait until May 19 to get all the details and see how it stacks up against the hot new competition — like the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 and the soon-to-be-revealed 2024 Ford Ranger.
