The new six-pack chairlift opens 600 acres of intermediate and expert terrain on Peaked Mountain in the Tetons.

Looking for a little Black Friday powder? Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, Wyo., announced on Thanksgiving the opening of a new lift that expands the resort’s skiable terrain by 30%. The 600 acres of new runs on Peaked Mountain include chutes, glades, and groomers that cater to intermediate and expert skiers. (Previously, Peaked Mountain was accessed by cat skiing only.)

According to a statement from the resort, the Colter Lift can move nearly 2,000 people per hour to the resort’s southern areas. Grand Targhee has the advantage of shorter lift lines and smaller crowds than nearby Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and is somewhat of a hidden gem in the area.

“I am proud of the effort our team has put into making this dream a reality. It feels appropriate to announce the opening of the new lift and terrain on Thanksgiving,” said General Manager Geordie Gillett.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to open this amazing skiing and riding to the public. And we are grateful for the extraordinary efforts of so many amazing employees over the years.”

In the age of long resort lines, a new lift anywhere is always a good thing. Grand Targhee’s new six-pack chairlift certainly won’t hurt that reputation.

Targhee’s website has the lowdown on schedules, trail status, and snow reports. Currently, it offers over 2,600 acres and has an average snowfall of 500-plus inches. An adult full-day lift ticket at Targhee runs $120-135 on holidays.
