If you’re all about shedding pounds and possibly shedding comfort, the GoLite Peak pack is up your alley. The company, which lives up to its name, produced a 1-pound, 11-ounce pack (for the medium-sized version). Depending on the size of pack you choose to match your torso length, the Peak will hold up to 36, 38 or 40 liters of gear. That’s perfect for a weekend trip.
With a handful of zippered pockets, water bottle and trekking pole pockets, ice axe loops and a hydration bladder sleeve, the pack is like many others on the market. But its minimalist attitude sets it apart. The Peak includes GoLite’s Convertabelt detachable hip belt that helps cut weight by using only the waist strap for minimalist support and stability. Even the back pad is removable. The Peak, which comes in blue/gray, black/gray and green/gray, will be available in February 2010 for $125. https://www.golite.com
