Beginning the new year with new talent, Chris Benchetler joins Arc’teryx — and things are about to get colorful.

Chris Benchetler is a skier, artist, husband, and father. He grew up in California close to the Eastern Sierra and Mammoth Mountain and recently joined Arc’Teryx’s renowned high-performance team of athletes. And he’s bringing with him his established (and diverse) talents and expertise.

If you don’t know about Benchetler, this quick, partially animated video is a good crash course. You’ll get a taste of just how artistic Benchetler is. (Spoiler alert: He’s pretty damn talented.)

He not only displays his prowess on the slopes, sending big jumps, slashing deep powder turns, and boosting off of cliffs and kickers. But you also get a sense of his mixed-media artistry in this video. It’s cut with his imaginative and surrealistic landscape expressions, animated with color and movement. His art takes this film to the next level.

“The outdoors ultimately became my muse for what was possible in life,” Benchetler writes on his website. “Skiing took the forefront in my career, but drawing and painting were never far behind. The way I was able to express myself on the mountain became another extension of my mind on canvas.”

If you’re already familiar with Benchetler, it’s probably because you’ve seen his original work on limited-edition skis, outdoor apparel, prints, or even tattoo designs. You can check them all out at Chris Benchetler’s online shop.

With so much to offer, it’s understandable that Arc’teryx would want to have someone of this caliber join the team. So, welcome, Chris; we can’t wait to see more of you and your colorful work on and off the slopes.
