How far would you go for one massively awesome ski descent?
For skiers Loïc Isliker and Paul de Groot, probably farther than most. In their latest edit for the YouTube channel Hidden Faces, the ambitious pair bushwhack and climb their way through Switzerland’s backcountry — just for a shot at “The Big Crack.”
That’s the nickname for a 2,950-foot couloir near the Saleina Glacier, found on the northeastern edge of the Mont Blanc Massif. The official name of the feature is the Couloir du Col des Clochers des Planereuse.
Xavier de le Rue and Sam Anthamatten skied the route six years ago, posting their own YouTube vid of the adventure. It proved no less interesting for Isliker and de Groot.
“We took a bit of a different approach as we cut the corner and didn’t pass or sleep in the Saleina hut,” they wrote for the video. “It was a beautiful day out in the mountains! Super happy we took on this challenge and found our exit!”
