Four Wheel Campers Introduces the CampOut, a Fully Modular Truck Camper

Take a slide-in truck camper design that has been refined over 52 years and add a fully modular interior, and what you get is the Four Wheel Campers (4WC) CampOut. This latest offering from 4WC starts at about $26K, and you can place your order for one starting today.

While modular-interior slide-in truck campers aren’t a new concept, they are new to the 4WC lineup. 4WC has offered a shell model of most of its popular campers in the past, but never with an attachment system and premade modules that can be added later.

“With the CampOut series, we’re giving outdoor enthusiasts the freedom to create a camper that grows with them, combining modular innovation with adaptability for any journey,” said Larry Baab, CEO and board member of Four Wheel Campers.

This new camper model will be available for both mid- and full-sized trucks. Five- and 6-foot versions will be available for both, as well as an 8-foot version for full-size trucks.

Base weight starts at 860 pounds for a 5-foot midsize truck model. For an 8-foot bed full-size model, the base weight is 1,030 pounds. Of course, more modules and options greatly increase the weight from there.

The camper is a traditional pop-top, cab-over design. It has a queen-sized bed in the cab-over. It comes standard with important features like a powered roof vent and fan, fire safety equipment, window shades built into the pop-up liner, an entry door with locks and screen, aluminum construction, and a one-piece roof design.

CampOut Module Flexibility

The CampOut introduces 4WC’s “Build Your Way” philosophy. The company says it is “empowering camping enthusiasts to take control over their camper’s layout and features. Whether you prefer a fully equipped camper with all available modules or an open floorplan, CampOut is designed to meet every exploration style.”

The idea here is that you can buy in at a lower price point, option as needed, and quickly configure the camper to your particular needs for the next trip you’re about to head out on.

The modules are made of 80/20 slotted extrusions and polypropylene honeycomb panels. Countertops are bamboo, while doors are HDPE, with compression latches.

CampOut Standard Modules

There are two standard modules in every camper: a power module and a utility module. They are located at the rear of the camper, flanking the rear entry door on each side. These modules can then be upgraded with things like a second lithium battery, a 2,000W inverter, a propane system with a Truma furnace, a propane stove with quick-connect options, an induction stove, and more.

• Power module: Located on the passenger side, this cabinet module houses a lithium battery with a smart monitor, power ports (USB/12V/120V), DC-to-DC charging with solar controller, and shore power.
• Utility module: Located on the driver’s side, this cabinet offers interior storage as well as lockable exterior storage.

CampOut Optional Modules

There are also three optional modules: water, fridge, and seating. These, of course, can also be optioned with a variety of upgrades or other features to better refine the camper to your particular use case.

• Water module: Located on the passenger side next to the power module, it includes a sink, 12V pump with a faucet, three 11L freshwater jugs, and one 11L gray water jug. Alternative options include a tall storage module or a lower platform with an optional seat cushion.
• Fridge module: It can be placed in a few locations and has a removable Dometic CFX chest refrigerator and lockable platform storage. Non-fridge options include the lockable platform with or without a seat cushion.
• Seating module: Located on the driver’s side of the camper, it is designed based on truck bed length. Five-foot truck bed versions feature bench-style seating, while 6- and 8-foot truck bed models include a front dinette layout. All seating modules come with lower storage, seat cushions, and a Lagun swivel table.

3 Ways to Order Modules

There are three ways to build out your CampOut camper. First, you could just buy it fully outfitted with all the modules you want, and set it up as you want from the start.

Options two and three are to wait and buy modules later, once you’ve figured out how you’ll use the camper most. You could have your local 4WC dealer order and install the modules you want. Or, you could order the modules you want and have them flat-packed and shipped directly to you, for self-assembly. Because of the way this system has been made, I’d bet most could save a bunch of money and build these modules out themselves at home in very little time.

CampOut Exterior

The exterior of the CampOut is also loaded with features that make life at camp easier — and the camper even more configurable for your adventure travel style.

It comes standard with six vertical rows of L-track and two aluminum molle panels. These add-ons allow for a wide range of secure gear hauling on the exterior of the camper.

Also standard is a full host of connections to power your adventures at camp. These connections include a DC port for Starlink Mini, 120V, USB-A, and USB-C outlets.

Included in the base CampOut are also exterior down-lights to make camp setup a breeze no matter what time you roll into your site.
