If you’ve ever ridden in a Sprinter Van, you know how versatile these big vehicles can be. With huge interior space, the Sprinter is just made to be customized.
And now you can get it in four-wheel drive — at least in Europe.
News of this van, released this month, has quickly made the rounds of car blogs and got our attention due to its adventurous appeal.
While originally slated for a 2014 release in Europe, several reports state that it will be available in North America in 2015.
The van looks as cool as it is expensive with an entry price of about $44,000. We’d love to take a test trip in this beast loaded to the gills with gear, bikes, skis, friends — you name it.
While Mercedes has positioned the van for professional use we can see plenty of applications in the daily lives of the adventurous. “Its home terrain? Construction sites, mountains, snowy regions and natural landscapes. And it covers an equally wide range of industries: construction, building materials, energy supply, forestry, the hotel business and, last but not least, people with a thirst for adventure,” Mercedes states in a press release.
High-torque four-cylinder and six-cylinder diesel engines with a choice of outputs — from a 129 hp BlueTec 4-cylinder to a 190 hp BlueTec 6-cylinder — power the big van.
The 4×4 Sprinters will hit the market in 2014, so if you get a chance to drive one, pick us up. We’ll be the ones on the side of the road with our thumbs out! —Sean McCoy
