The move aims to prevent unnecessary travel as states push back against the potential spread of COVID-19.

Today, Nebraska Game and Parks announced that they will no longer be selling turkey hunting permits to nonresident hunters. This move aims to protect Nebraskans from out-of-state travelers.

The archery season for Nebraska turkey is currently active, and nonresident hunters who hold tags already are able to use them. If hunters have purchased tags for an upcoming trip to Nebraska, they might be eligible for a refund. The shotgun season opens on April 11 for youth and April 18 for adults, and it extends until May 31.

For those planning to hunt in Nebraska — both residents and nonresidents alike — Nebraska Game and Parks asks that you do the following:

“The Commission reminds all hunters to honor CDC, state and local health regulations when hunting. Honor social distancing guidelines, staying at least 6 feet away from your fellow hunters and from property owners on whose land you’ve already gained permission to hunt. Avoid knocking on doors to gain last-minute hunting permission.”
